How would you characterise your beauty practice?

My hair and skincare is definitely therapeutic and functional. I don’t like doing more than what is necessary so I researched and started with identifying my hair and skin type. It involves a lot of trial and error so I could say that that process is fun.

Current morning beauty routine:

Wash with a non-stripping face wash by Eucerin DermatoCLEAN Hyaluron, I tone with swiitchbeauty #SuperHeroSpray which contains hyaluronic acid, use one or two serums, one of which is the Chick Cosmetics Dewy Face Serum, moisturise with Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream seal with the facial oil of my choice that day and lastly sunscreen by Dermopal.

Current evening beauty routine:

I first sulk about having to wash my face, but it’s always easier right after a bath or shower, which is most days. I then wash, tone, apply an evening serum, blemish cream, moisturiser and lastly seal with oil. One or two nights a week, I use my face masks or overnight chemical exfoliator.

Favourite product and how long you’ve been using it:

Anything from the dry skin Eucerin range. I’ve been using it for about 8 months.

Favourite Suki Suki Naturals product:

The Açaí Gentle Exfoliating Mask and Rosehip Brightening Facial Oil are out of this world. I have many of Suki Suki Naturals haircare range too.

Something you’ve tried and loved:

My skincare routine started about 8 months ago, and it has been life changing.

Something you had passed down to you:

My sister has influenced all my makeup and skin care.

Your earliest beauty memory?

It’s mostly hair memories, because skin was never a focus growing up. I remember my first face wash, in matric probably, and that was a big deal.

What role does beauty play in your life?

I have really struggled with lockdown and being at home, so developing my own skincare routine aided me in that. Taking care of my skin makes me feel less lonely; I feel that I am pouring into myself and seeing results. My hair care has changed since I cut my hair 9 months ago, but hair has been the most consistent thing in my life in the last 6 years and I cherish it with all my heart.

Does your practice have a goal?

The goal has always been better-looking skin and not needing makeup to feel good and that has also led to lots of learning.

What have you learned about yourself through your beauty practice?

I have learnt that I can do anything that I put my mind to. I have also learnt that money is meant to be used. I used to not be able to buy skin products, hair products or perfumes and now I do that happily. Life is short and looking and smelling good is an everyday pleasurable experience.

What would you change about your shelf?

Hahaha, I need more storage space! It’s crazy how little space I have. I am constantly feeling guilty about decluttering. More shelves would be great. I cannot wait to have a spacious, marble bathroom.

What would you change about the world of beauty?

I would love to see all beauty represented in marketing and less airbrush and editing.
